Jac Attack!

Jac Attack!

Beddau 24-21 Cobra

A visit to our friends in Beddau, who would be after revenge after a Cobra victory earlier in the season.

Beddau has a rich history, with four British Lions coming through their ranks, this was sure to be a tough game. Interestingly Beddau is Welsh for “graves”, would this game prove to be a graveyard for Cobra dreams of victory?

First half:  Beddau 12-7 Cobras

We started this game on fire, grabbing a try in the opening moments.. Jac Smythe only joined us this season, but he’s taken to the game like a sheep to Abertridwr….he picked up the ball deep in our half, sprinted round the defence, set sail for the try line and scored..stunning.  Harry J converted.

Beddau have a strong pack and they utilised this to full effect…we were turned over near the half way line, giving away a penalty..from the lineout there was another penalty, this time leaving them five metres from our line, with a big runner going over..conversion missed.

Beddau’s second try was an exact replica of the first, a succession of penalties leaving them on our five metre line and they are too big and strong for our pack, going over again.  This try is converted to leave the half time score at 12-7.

Second half: Beddau 24-22 Cobras

The Cobras came out much livelier in the second half, playing some good rugby with strong running from Shane, Luke and Cam. Luke has a barnstorming run, that leaves him close to the line, Seth recycles the ball to Snowy and he goes over for a lovely score.
Harry J converts.

Cobras are in fine form now, but Beddau are tackling well and we are finding it hard to break through…until…a bit of magic from Harry Jones, that would have had Phil Bennett acknowledging a fellow rugby magician..spotting the rush defence…Harry J chips beautifully over the top and racing through is the Elvis of the valleys..with a shimmy of his hips, he’s on the ball and over for a marvellous try.. Harry J converts..of course..

With a nine point lead and minutes on the clock, the Cobras are deep in the Beddau half and looking comfortable…until.. we give away a succession of penalties again, eventually  leading to another Beddau lineout five metres from our line..and just like the first two times, their big pack go over…try converted.

Time is virtually up now, it’s last play and the Cobras just need to kick off deep…but..no..we are offside from the kick off.  Penalty to Beddau…

Beddau take it quick and make ground, before we concede another penalty for a high tackle..They go again and it’s another penalty at the breakdown…they kick it right to our five metre line again…and for the fourth time a big runner goes over for the winning try, which is converted ahead of the ref blowing up for full time.

A great game,  played in fantastic spirit, well reffed, with both sets of fans applauding good play from both teams. 👏

Well played Beddau and unlucky Cobras, line out defence training incoming this week….

Was Jac for a stunning all round effort, complementing his excellent try with some brilliant tackling..
